About T1 Fest

Our Passion

To make a difference using the power of music and community to bring people together to create awareness for Type 1 Diabetes.

For Chicago-bred T1 Fest, the idea that music can save lives is not just a philosophy – it’s an all-out mission. The annual event, which celebrates its 5th anniversary in 2024, began as a way to bring awareness to and critical funding for Type 1 Diabetes, a condition that affects 2 million Americans including 304,000 children, according to the American Diabetes Association. “We wanted to use the power of music and community to one day find a cure,” says Jim Costanzo who, along with Joe Inglima founded the punk/pop-punk/indie-rock festival in 2019 after Inglima’s son was diagnosed with the serious condition at age three. Additional Information

What Is Type 1 Diabetes?

Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas are mistakenly destroyed by the body’s immune system. T1D can be diagnosed early in life, but also in adulthood. Its cause is not fully known, and there is no cure. People with T1D are dependent on injected or pumped insulin to survive. Managing the disease is underinsured and results in thousands of dollars in out of pockets expenses annually. Families are often made to choose between treatment and necessities. Left untreated, it can cause severe symptoms, life-threatening complications and death.
